Just noticed I can finally breathe out of my nose. Clap, clap to thatttt! (I’ve been feeling a little stuffy lately) But in other news, let me tell you what happened to me on Saturday. Well, I don’t know if I can really say something “happened” to me but at the same time it did. I was INSPIRED in the best way, does being inspired constitute something happening to me?… Yea, okay good.
Saturday morning I found myself walking into the North Carolina History Museum behind the Westover High School Drum line. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been there, nevertheless with a drum line leading the way. But after stepping in I’ll probably never look at the History Museum the same again. First and foremost there were so many black people there and we weren’t just standing around either. To the left was Frank Bias just carving furniture from scratch, walk a little further and Jeghetto (yea, I liked his name too) was walking his puppets around the floor of the museum, two floors of just tables and exhibits set up from wall to wall with black painters, photographers, quilt makers, embroiders, there was even a man juggling sticks. Then each room had a theme from music, movement, and drama to History, Film, and Enterprise, to Food Health, and Beauty. I could barely sit in one room attentively for the anxiousness of wanting to go to the next activity in another room. It was just sooo.. REFRESHING. Seeing black peoples talents shown and highlighted and not just for sports or rapping but for everything we’re capable of, that doesn’t happen often. We as a people are so talented, charismatic, passionate, just great and I love when we get a chance to show that. So thank you North Carolina History Museum for the 13th African American Cultural Celebration, you’ve gained an attendee for the 14th, 15th, shooot even the 100th celebration. Oh, and by the way this will always happen on the last Saturday in January and is FREE.99 so if you’re in the Raleigh area around this time, STOP BY. Hopefully you’ll leave as inspired as I did.
